Lead Flashing

Lead is an excellent building material in many ways.

It’s extremely durable, lasting hundreds of years if installed properly, very appealing in its traditional design, and relatively easy to work with. It works particularly well as lead flashing because it can be moulded into many different shapes, offering a totally watertight seal on your rooftop. Even when shaped this way it won’t crack or split, even when exposed to the weather.

The main purpose of Lead Flashing is to stop the ingress of water on your rooftop - it’s that simple. A flashing covers exposed gaps, openings and holes in your rooftop after putting down tiles or guttering. Lead is not a DIY material - it takes years to train yourself on how to properly install lead, especially on rooftops.

Here at JJ Roofing Supplies we provide affordable lead rolls with prices that match the ever-changing lead market. Our prices are competitive and updated regularly to make sure you’re always getting the best deal - please contact us for more information about how our lead pricing system works.

Lead Flashing is available in different ‘Codes’; essentially, each code is a different thickness and thus an extra weight. It can be tricky to know exactly which code of lead flashing you’ll need for your project, and if you do have any questions, please contact our team for some friendly advice.

Lead goes from Code 3 up to Code 8. These different weights and thicknesses are helpful for other roofing jobs, for example, flashings, flat roofs, valley gutters, pitched roof flashing, canopies and more. The applications of lead are huge. Here at JJ Roofing Supplies, we offer rolls of a standard length of 3 or 6m, which provide 2 or 4 lead flashings that will last on your rooftop for a lifetime and then some.

Over recent years of price hikes and an uprise in thieves stripping lead roofs from even period-listed buildings, many manufacturers have presented innovative lead flashing alternatives to the market. Generally, these alternatives are cheaper, easier to install, and don’t run the risks of water contamination or burglary like lead.

Although we understand the need for lead on some occasions - especially on dated properties for a traditional look - lead flashing alternatives recreate many of lead’s best qualities and improve on them. They might be self-adhesive and look much like lead, but they cost half the price and take half the time to install yourself at home. It’s often difficult to tell the difference at all.

At JJ Roofing Supplies we supply both authentic lead flashing roll of varying sizes and thickness according to your needs. If you want to find out more about our prices or which lead you think you need for your project, please call and ask us like you would in the shop. Our online prices are market-competitive, and we offer fast UK delivery within 2-3 days.
