Loft Ladders
Explore our selection of loft ladders, including two-section and three-section loft ladders sourced from FAKRO, Laddaway, Werner and Youngman.
Loft ladders provide safe, convenient access to attic and roof spaces without the expense or footprint of a full staircase. Whether you’re storing seasonal items, undertaking a loft conversion or simply needing easy access for maintenance, a good loft ladder is an essential addition to any home or business. At JJ Roofing Supplies we stock a carefully selected range of high‑quality loft ladders from leading brands such as FAKRO, Werner and Laddaway. Our range includes timber and aluminium ladders in two‑section and three‑section designs, with options to suit floor‑to‑ceiling heights from around 2.6 m up to 3.05 m. Many models feature insulated hatches to help minimise heat loss and improve the energy efficiency of your home.
Timber Loft Ladders
Timber loft ladders are valued for their natural appearance, sturdiness and insulation. They blend well with traditional interiors and often include an insulated hatch and seal to keep draughts at bay. Our timber range is dominated by FAKRO and Laddaway ladders:
- FAKRO LWK‑280 Komfort 55×111 cm and 60×120 cm (3‑section) – These pine ladders fold neatly into three sections and are supplied fully assembled with a white insulated hatch, red handrail and heavy‑duty PVC stile ends. A 3.6 cm thick hatch with 3 cm of insulation provides a U‑value of 1.1 W/m²K, while non‑slip treads and a hinge that moves the hatch away from the ladder enhance safety and ease of use. They carry up to 160 kg and meet EN 14975. Smaller 55 cm ladders use 30 cm treads; other sizes use 34 cm treads.
- FAKRO LWK‑280 Komfort (Multiple sizes) – This version offers the same three‑section design and insulated hatch but is available in a wide range of internal box sizes to fit different openings. It is rated for floor‑to‑floor heights up to 2.80 m and includes a peripheral seal, handrail and stile ends.
- FAKRO LWK‑305 Komfort (Multiple sizes) – Similar to the LWK‑280 range but designed for taller ceilings up to 3.05 m. Customers can choose from various box sizes (55 × 111 cm to 80 × 120 cm). These ladders fold away neatly, have insulated hatches and carry a 160 kg load, making them ideal for loft conversions where height is a factor.
- Laddaway EnviroFold Timber Loft Ladder – A three‑section FSC‑certified timber ladder that fits between standard 600 mm joists. It has an insulated trapdoor (26 mm deep) with draught seals, concealed hinges and a sprung counterbalance for smooth operation. Double handrails and serrated 82 mm‑deep treads provide extra security, and the ladder is certified to EN 14795 with a 150 kg working load. Suitable for floor‑to‑floor heights up to 2.82 m.
- Laddaway Eurofold Timber Loft Ladder – Made from high‑quality spruce with a white insulated trapdoor, this ladder includes a loft surround, spring‑assisted stowage and wide, deep treads for comfort. A continuous seal reduces heat loss, while the ladder and hatch store within the trapdoor to save space. It supports 150 kg, is certified to EN 14975 and comes with a locking mechanism, toe‑boards and operating pole.
Aluminium Loft Ladders
Aluminium loft ladders are lightweight, strong and easy to operate, making them ideal for regular use or trade environments. They are less insulating than timber ladders but offer excellent durability and ease of installation.
- Werner 2 Section Loft Ladder (76002) – This aluminium ladder extends from two overlapping sections and attaches to the inside of the loft, lowering down when needed. It measures 163 × 30.5 cm and is suitable for ceiling heights up to 2.69 m. Non‑slip D‑shaped rungs, a universal stowing pole and a handrail make it comfortable and secure. It comes with all components for DIY installation and has a 150 kg load capacity.
- Werner 3 Section Loft Ladder (76003) – Similar in design but with three sections, this ladder suits ceiling heights up to 3 m. It measures 139 × 30.5 cm and includes slip‑resistant D rungs, a handrail, universal stowing pole and all fittings. It is rated for 150 kg and is popular for trade or frequent domestic use.

Choosing the Right Loft Ladder
Selecting the correct loft ladder depends on the size of your loft opening, the floor‑to‑floor height and your preferred material. Wooden ladders offer a more traditional look and better insulation, while aluminium ladders are lightweight and easy to handle. Two‑section ladders are compact and ideal for lower ceiling heights, whereas three‑section ladders are suitable for higher ceilings or where a longer ladder is needed without taking up additional space. Always measure the internal opening (width × length) and the floor‑to‑floor height before ordering, and consider additional features such as handrails, insulated hatches, slip‑resistant treads and load capacity to match your needs.
FAQs
How do I choose the right size loft ladder?
Measure the dimensions of your existing loft opening (width and length) and the distance from the floor to the loft floor (floor‑to‑floor height). Most ladders have specific casing sizes and recommended height ranges. For example, FAKRO LWK‑280 ladders suit heights up to about 2.80 m, while LWK‑305 ladders reach up to 3.05 m. Ensure the ladder you choose matches or slightly exceeds your loft height for safe and comfortable access.
What’s the difference between a two‑section and a three‑section loft ladder?
Two‑section ladders consist of two sliding sections and are generally suitable for lower ceilings. Three‑section ladders fold into three parts, allowing them to extend further and fit taller ceilings while still folding neatly into the loft hatch. Three‑section ladders also tend to have a smaller footprint in the loft when folded away.
Are wooden loft ladders better than aluminium?
Wooden loft ladders offer natural aesthetics and often come with insulated hatches that help reduce heat loss. They’re a great choice for domestic installations where appearance and energy efficiency matter. Aluminium ladders are lighter and more suited to trade or frequent use, with lower maintenance requirements and easier handling.
Do loft ladders come with a handrail?
Many models include handrails for safer climbing. All FAKRO Komfort ladders feature a side handrail, and both Werner ladders have a handrail included. The Laddaway EnviroFold even has double handrails.
Is installation difficult?
Most loft ladders from JJ Roofing Supplies are designed for straightforward installation and come with detailed instructions. FAKRO ladders arrive fully assembled; you only need to secure the frame into the prepared opening. Werner and Laddaway ladders include all necessary fittings and a stowing or operating pole. If you’re unsure, consult a qualified installer for assistance.
How much weight can these ladders support?
FAKRO ladders are rated to 160 kg, making them suitable for most domestic uses. Werner and Laddaway ladders have a working load of 150 kg, which is adequate for trade and household tasks.
Do these ladders have insulated hatches?
FAKRO ladders include a thick, factory‑insulated hatch with a U‑value around 1.1 W/m²K and a peripheral seal. Laddaway ladders also feature insulated trapdoors with seals to reduce heat loss. Werner ladders, being aluminium, usually do not include an insulated hatch; they attach to your existing loft hatch.
What warranty is offered?
FAKRO loft ladders include a three‑year warranty. Laddaway EnviroFold and Eurofold ladders have a one‑year warranty. Werner ladders come with manufacturer warranties covering material and workmanship defects.
