Chesterfelt Strongbond 180 Green

The Chesterfelt Strongbond 180 Green is a traditional pour and roll cap sheet designed with a polyester core made from continuous filaments and features a mineral finish. This cap sheet achieves waterproofing by saturating and coating both surfaces in bitumen.

When incorporated into a well-designed and properly installed multi-layer system, and maintained according to BS 8217:2005 – Code of Practice for Reinforced Bitumen Membranes for Roofing, the Strongbond 180 Green roofing felt is expected to have a lifespan exceeding 10 years.

Suitability

To complete a full system, the Chesterfelt Strongbond 180 Green is installed above the underlay membrane, serving as the final waterproofing layer. It provides reliable waterproofing protection and is suitable for use on a wide range of buildings when used as part of a multi-layer built-up roofing system.

Installation Guidelines

This torch on felt should be installed following the manufacturer’s recommendations and all relevant national standards and codes of practice, including BS 8217:2005 – Code of Practice for Reinforced Bitumen Membranes for Roofing.

Mineral Surface Protection

The upper surface of the membrane is protected using natural mineral granules from quarrying. The colours of the minerals may vary depending on seam depths and extraction positions within the quarry. However, weathering and ageing will make these variations less visible over time.

Maintenance and Repair

Routine inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of the roof membranes should follow the recommendations in BS 8217:2005. If damaged during construction or at a later date, repairs should be made using the same materials to retain the performance of the built-up membranes.

Handling and Storage

Store the material vertically on a firm, flat surface, and transport it standing on end to avoid damage.

Contractors should produce specific risk assessments and method statements as necessary to comply with Working at Heights, Fire Safety, and Manual Handling regulations.
