Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive

Introducing the best solvent-based contact adhesive on the market - Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive, brought to you by JJ Roofing. This incredible, high-quality product has been created by the experts at Icopal for use in a whole range of roof setups including EPDM rubber roofing systems. From new builds to refurbishments, you won’t be disappointed by the performance of this product.

Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive is characterised as a high-strength solvent-based adhesive. It is designed to facilitate the bonding of Monarplan non-fleeceback reinforced membranes to various porous and non-porous substrates. It is ideally suited for details such as upstands and abutments where it is most effective at providing instant contact adhesion.

Coverage

Here at JJ Roofing, we supply Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive in 10kg drums. The coverage rate will vary from one application to the next as both type and porosity of the substrate, ambient atmosphere conditions and applicator experience will all have a knock-on effect. The approximate application rate of Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive is as follows - 160 g/m² (subject to the above).

Preparation

Preparation of the Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive is a simple and straightforward process that won’t take much time at all. Always ensure that the surface on or against which the adhesive will be applied to is clean, smooth and dry. It should also be free of fins, sharp edges, loose and foreign materials, oil and grease.

Next, ensure that all sharp projections are removed by sweeping, blowing or vacuum cleaning. An epoxy, mortar or other approved patching material should be used wherever a depression is noted that is greater than 6mm.

Be sure to review the applicable Material Safety Data Sheet for complete safety information prior to use. Please note that thinning will affect performance so always avoid this and ensure that you do not use any adhesive that is overly thick or gelled.

Application

You’ll be happy to hear that applying the Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive to any EPDM rubber roofing system is both quick and easy. First, start by stirring the material for at least five minutes. Next, take a 25mm medium nap roller and apply an even film to both the substrate and membrane. To avoid the formation of puddles or globs, ensure that application is continuous and uniform.

Do not proceed with assembly until the Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive has completely dried. It should not be sticky to the touch and should not string when you pull your finger away. Drying times will typically vary and could take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or longer depending on conditions.

Make certain that any surfaces that are to be hot-air welded do not have Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive applied to them. Roll the membrane onto the adhesive coated substrate while taking care not to trap any air and avoiding wrinkles. Immediately brush down the bonded portion of the sheet with a soft bristle push broom or a clean dry roller applicator to achieve maximum contact.

Order from JJ Roofing today and we will aim to get your Icopal Monarplan Contact Adhesive to you within 5-7 working days.
