Code 6 450mm x 3m (18inch) Roofing Lead Roll

Code 6 Lead is 2.65mm thick (a 18% increase over code 5 lead) and weighs 30.05kg/m2 (Thickness to BS EN12588 tolerances of +/- 5%)

Whether the roof you are working on is sheltered or is exposed to more severe weather, code 6 lead can be used for every aspect of pitched roofing or flat roofing.

Even with a historical or listed building Code 6 lead is appropriate for almost all use except, pitched roofs, flat roofing or any part of the roof that is susceptible to very slow runoff or where there may be some pooling issues

As with some of the slightly thinner gauges of lead, the increased thickness means that code 6 lead has increased resistance to thermal movement you can safely keep the maximum length of flashing at 1.5metres.  JJ Roofing Supplies standard roll lengths of 3 and 6 metres will therefore give you either 2 or 4 lead flashing strips that will help waterproof your roof for generations.

Avoid pointing with mortar and instead use a lead sealant that allows for thermal expansion and contraction, this will result in lower wear and an increased resistance to water ingress and the mould, rot and other water damage that can result.

The appearance of a lead roof is also important to maintain and so, to get a good start, when installing any kind of lead sheet, slate or flashings, it is important to use some kind of patination oil which minimises the unsightly staining that can affect newly applied lead.

New lead can develop a corrosion product, lead carbonate, in damp or rainy conditions which leaves a non-adherent coating on the surface of the lead which is not aesthetically pleasing. The simple solution for this is the application of a thin coat of patination oil on all newly installed items, even on the underside of flashing, ensuring that you get a great looking finish both before and after the final patina develops.
