Types of Tiles Suitable For a Curved Roof
Curved roofs can provide a challenge to even the most experienced roofer. They present numerous hurdles, all of which are surmountable if the roofer uses the right roofing materials and tools.
Perhaps it is more appropriate to answer the question posed not by saying which tiles should be used on a curved roof, but which tiles should not be used on a curved roof.
Interlocking tiles and a curved roof is not a match made in heaven, no matter how shallow the curve is. The interlocking mechanism on the tiles does not allow for any movement, so gaps will occur between tiles if they are used on roofs with cone, vertical or diagonal shapes. The gap between the tiles, if they are laid on any of these roofs, will become a weak point and will eventually become susceptible to rain ingress.
Plain tiles are the best type to use on a curved roof, but even then tiles should be cut exactly to avoid gapping, and pitches and minimum side laps should always be maintained so the water runs off the tiles and not across them.
