Roof windows vs dormer windows

Small skylights may not be to everyone's style. People now want everything to be bigger in size. Why should a window on the roof be any smaller than the windows in other parts of the house? Large roof windows are able to let the light in during the daytime and give you a beautiful view of the night sky after dark.

Imagine watching the rain and clouds in the sky, while you lay in your dry and comfortable bed. Imagining such luxuries, a roof window would be hard to resist. There are two kinds of windows which you can get installed into your roof.

Roof windows

A roof window is much bigger as compared to a dormer window. Due to its bigger size and slanting position, it will also offer sunlight for a longer period during the day. This difference can be significant if the placement of the window is done properly on the roof. There is no special framework necessary for installing a roof window as it is installed directly into the roof. Hence the installation of roof windows is much cheaper and easier than the installation of a dormer window.

Dormer windows

Dormer windows are installed vertically overhead. They project out of a slanting roof surface and hence require a special framework for their installation. Since the window faces the sun with a smaller surface area, it gets less sunlight. Their installation, as already discussed, is more complicated and expensive than roof windows.

As you can see, roof windows have some clear advantages over dormer windows. All you need to do is set a budget and contact a professional roofing company. They are more than capable of bringing your imagination to life.
