Install a roof window to brighten your room

Before the invention of electricity, homes only had windows and doors to brighten their rooms. Installing a roof window in your home, can make it the centre of attention. Roof windows are also a practical way of illuminating your home.

Features of roof windows

Roof windows are an ideal way of saving on heating and electricity bills as they provide your home with natural lighting. Your contribution to the conservation of the environment is an added advantage. It is easier to install a roof window in your home as opposed to installing a regular window.

Roof windows can be protected, with flashing systems, which seal the roof. The roof windows are constructed to provide your home with the right amount of light, without endangering the foundation of your home.

The roof windows are available in two varieties; the curb mounted skylights and the frame in place windows. The curb mounted skylight is raised above the plane level of the roof structure and is set on the frame curb to form an important part of the house. The frame in place of roof window is made for installation, flushed with the plane of the roof structure. This roof window uses the same process as vertical windows.

Each of these has their own type of flashing systems. The curb mounted roof window uses flashing systems which run through the length of the roof window. They are usually glazed with a glass dome. The frame in place of roof window is made of sill flashing and has the feature of side flashing.
