#FiveOfOurFavourite Green Roofs
Although green roofs seem like a relatively modern trend, this is far from the truth. This trend was started in Norway hundreds of years ago.
Green roofs are not just for looks, they perform well in a number of different areas including thermal insulation, storm water management, noise insulation, air quality and much more.
Here's 5 of our favourite green roofs.
1. Chicago Millennium Park
Although it just looks like a park, the Millennium Park in Chicago actually serves as a roof for the train station and car park below, and is considered one of the largest green roofs in the world.
2. Vancouver Convention Centre
The 6 acre living roof of the Vancouver Convention Centre is quite the spectacle, with over 400,000 native plants and 60,000 bees that provide honey for the restaurant inside.
3. Hemsedal Norway, Mountain Cabin
Not the largest scale construction on this list, but definitely the most picturesque which deserves a place on this list.
4. California Academy of Sciences
The purpose of this academy is to "explore, explain, and sustain life on Earth.". What better way to sustain life then to install a complete green roof.
5. The Guinigi Tower, Lucca Italy
One of the oldest green roofs in the world, supposedly created in the 14th century. This green roof is incredibly unique for its time period.
