ACQ Treated Cedar Shingles

ACQ Treated Cedar Shingle is a fantastic roofing option if you’re looking for something stylish and lightweight. Perfect for domestic and commercial buildings, Cedar Shingles are regularly seen on chalets, sheds and outdoor storage buildings.

Cedar shingles have been a popular roofing material in Canada for hundreds of years and are now becoming increasingly popular in the UK. The cedar shingles that we stock are responsibly sourced from renewable Canadian forests, making them a fantastic option for those looking to build an eco-friendly home.

Once a Cedar tree has been felled, shingles are cut from the logs, trimmed to size and squared off on the corner. They are then graded according to visual features. At JJ Roofing, we only stock A grade Cedar shingles, which means they’re knot-free, a pale shade and create an homogenous and uniform appearance.

Cedar shingles also weather to silver grey and once dried, can be stained or painted to a colour or effect of your choice. You may also notice that the wood has a characteristic pleasing spicy aroma.

What’s even better is ACQ Treated Cedar Shingles are well renowned for providing great thermal and acoustic insulation. Whether you’re looking into roofing options for a roof replacement or a new build, Cedar shingles are a great choice if you would like to see a potential reduction in your energy bills.

Long-lasting and incredibly durable, Cedar Shingles are very resistant to adverse weather. Cedar contains natural preservatives which make it very resistant to moisture and UV rays. This makes it a great choice for both wet and dry climes. It is also less susceptible to moss growth, which means its lower maintenance than other shingle options.

Underlay is not necessarily needed. In fact, it’s only recommended if the ACQ Treated Cedar Shingle is going to be used in a particularly damp area such as a valley or where the roof pitch is particularly low.

Because our Cedar Shingle is ACQ treated, it lasts up to 10% longer than untreated wood. The factory applied ACQ makes it resistant to decay, rot, bacteria and fungus, which significantly reduces the amount of factors that could contribute to wood deterioration.
